Mara J. James
Mara J. James is an author, visionary, entrepreneur, and advocate for mental health. In 2014, at 48, she experienced a life-altering manic episode and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Rather than accepting a purely clinical framework, Mara recognized her episode as a spiritual awakening — a reframe that transformed her life.
She is the founder of the Extraordinary Lives Foundation (ELF), committed to children's mental health and emotional wellness, and the creator of the beloved Piggie Bear children's book series. In 2025, she was recognized as a Woman of the Year by U.S. Congressman Lou Correa.
